The first of this series was funny the first and second time through, then it gets old. The 2nd was funny the first time only. This is much better than those two, because it makes jokes about a wider range of subjects, not just Bond movies. Yah, there are still plenty of double meanings and jokes like that, but they are presented in a much better way. The opening scene is hilarious, Meyers is pretty funny(still), but Michael Caine is the standout in this movie. Another plus about this is that it makes some jokes about the first two movies. This movie is by no means terrible. In fact, many would place it in the upper echelon of mediocrity. However, the movie disappoints because of the high standard set by the first two, and especially the second of the two, Austin Powers films. Mike Myers is great as always, except perhaps in his portrayal of the title character, and this film has some of the funniest individual gags of the entire series (a music video comes to mind), but throughout the film it seems as if the moviemakers were searching for more material as they went. This movie reminds me of a musical album with too many songs. They wanted to include everything that was thought to have merit, and even if all of the jokes work, mistakes will always be made. Besides Myers, the acting is questionable. Beyonce is hackneyed beyond the point of what is needed, and Foxy doesn't match with Austin well. Austin is not 70s, he's 60s. Michael Caine does inject two or three hilarious one-liners, but many of the other new characters are not as memorable as a Robin Swallows or a Fez. In addition, too much attention is focused on Scott Evil, who has never been a favorite among Austin Powers fans. This movie is saved because of the fact that it is supposed to be a stupid comedy, of course, and because closure is indeed presented. But the main reason for its frailty in the first place is the comedic masterpiece that was the second film. If this was the only film in the series, perhaps it would have met more critical acclaim. As it stands, however, it is a bit of a let-down.

This third entry in the Austin saga was a breath of fresh air for the most part. Funny from start to finish with lots of memorable moments. The dialogue wasn't as quotable as the first but the gags made up for it. This one was pretty clever except for the character of Goldmember who is simply annoying and disgusting - he eats his dead skin for chrissakes! Beyonce was great and the addition of Michael Caine, the man that Austin was based on in part was a stroke of genius. The childhood stuff was all hilarious and the cameos, especially Danny DeVito and Fred Savage were top notch. A nice addittion to the funny series. Austin buffs should like it, I did.

Goldmember is definitely the funniest of the three Austin Powers features, but suffers from a badly written script. The actual plot isn't that bad (Austin's father is kidnapped by the evil Goldmember who has used a time machine to transport himself from 1975 to 2002 to wreck havoc on the world. And the small side story of Austin trying to connect with his 'Never There' father), but Mike Myers seemed to try and include most (If not all) of his great skits from the first two movies. The result is a movie that starts to seem like just a bunch of funny clips pilled together to make a movie. But luckily new hilarious skits, and some still funny old ones save this film from becoming another one of Hollywood's horrible sequels. As I said before, this is arguably the funniest of all the Austin powers movies. All of the great characters from the first two are back; Mr. Evil, Mini-Me, Fat Bastard, Scott, Fral Farbisena (sorry if I spelled anything wrong. Ever try spelling Farbisena, it's hard), No. 2, and of course, Austin. A few new characters add to the movie; Goldmember is the best of these; a Dutch, skin flake eating, madman (oh, by the way; he really does have a goldmember). The other new character is Foxxy Cleopatra, played by Beyonce Knowles, is another great addition to the Powers family. Over these past three Austin Powers movies, Mike Myers has shown the he is one of the funniest men alive ... So overall, I would definitely say this movie is worth the 1? hours of your time...

There is just no way to make another sequel coherent enough to keep a story line. Just like Scream 3, Naked Gun 33 1/3, Spy Kids 3. Each film becomes weaker with each new sequel, because the story from the first wasn't designed to carry a sequel. For this 3rd installment of the Power's series, I expected nothing less than hilarious laughter and fun. I got exactly that. The opening sequence is funny as hell (especially when "Steven Spielberg" goes backflipping). Evil is funny as usual, Austin is his swinging self, Mini Me has grown into a more mature character, Fat Bastard is less of a bastard, but fatter, and Scott Evil is finally living up to his name. Not to mention John Travolta. The new character, Goldmember, does not appear much, and thankfully, we don't care. It's all about Evil and Myers. PS Beyonce sucks.

So I just got back from the 12am showing of 300. The theater was packed and of course I hadn't bothered to buy my ticket ahead of time. However as luck would have it the couple behind me decided they wanted to see it at a different time, due to the large crowed. So i managed to buy one of their tickets off of them and i was in! I've been looking forward to this film for ages it seems. I'm a big fan of Frank Miller and loved Sin City. If you didn't enjoy Sin City due to the graphic nature of the violence well prepare to hate this film. Personally I loved it in all it's bloody glory. I'm a big fan of not censoring films just because some people can't handle reality. Anyways, great film rivals Gladiator. Definitely check this one out.

I really enjoyed reading your review and how it was so one sided. You make it sound like Frank Miller is stereo typing all Persians, which he is not. You need to understand this movie is a GRAPHIC NOVEL of Frank Millers version of the Battle of Thermopylae. He takes his own ideas or stories and puts his own twist on them. My opinion is that Frank Miller likes to add his own darkness to the movies he has done in the past. So get over it!!! There is no one saying that all Persians are Demonic creatures, blood thirsty savages or any other names you come up with. You did not need to write a timeline of Persians accomplishments. Besides there was one thing you left out. You left out the facts that Xerxes the son of Darius wanted to seek vengeance on the Greeks and their neighbors for what had happened to his father and grandfather Cyrus. If I remember correctly Xerxes stated that he would not stop until he had marched through all of Greece and Europe to conquer all and to set ONE PERSIAN Empire as far as the God's Heavens would reach. So when you looked inside the borders it was but one. So if you ask me do I think the Persians were wrong for that time period sure, but you have to understand all nations were the same, it was the way of life back then. So get over your little temper tantrum and realize that all ethnicity has been evil at one point in time of their existence. Like gladiator, except, without a plot! - 300 Reviews

Basically the movie consisted of highly graphic, slow-motion scenes of essentially invincible Spartans slaughtering countless Persians with spears and the occassional sword. The movie consists of a lot of computer animation (everything but the main characters were animated), but it's so well done that while it's apparent that the continual slow-motion blood spatter isn't real, it satisfies its purpose of emphasizing the intensity of the battles. The war scenes are intended to be gory, lending high praise to the superior combat skills of the Spartans -- both the computer animation and slow motion achieve this effect. Now, I may be biased as a girl, but I found the multiple nude scenes (which occur mostly in the middle of the movie) to be rather pointless, except perhaps to reach out to the largely male audience. There are many scenes of bare-chested women -- none play any vital role to the storyline, so I found them to be quite distracting. The plot itself was rather bare, as the large majority of the movie was geared only toward the battle scenes, but I'll give it credit for maintaining a *direction* with its story (unlike Snakes on a Plane, for example). Overall? If you're looking for a movie that really emphasizes the Hercules-like skills in a group of 300 men, this is the one. The Spartans are strong, quick, highly aggressive, and smart -- and the movie's purpose appears solely to highlight this.

I've enjoyed the austin powers series immensely international man of mystery was a funny and original parody and with the spy who shagged me things just seemed to get better and better. i was pretty pleased with this latest entry in the series but i think the time has now come to put a lid on the austin powers series and for mike myers to move on to other things. Don't get me wrong here i believe goldmember was one of the best comedies of the year and as good as myers and the jokes were i get the feeling the series is starting to tire. You can only use the same gag so many times as ozzy osbourne was good enough to point out. Goldmember lacks the freshness of the first two films and in parts just makes us feel like we're going through the motions. i welcomed the new characters we were given in the first sequel mini me and fat bastard but goldmember just seems rather pointless unless that is the film makers have some major issues with the dutch and on first viewing i thought beyonce knowles character foxxy cleopatra came across well but on second viewing just came off as rather annoying. Although all that said there is still a lot of fun to be had in goldmember all the austin powers regulars are back i particuarly enjoyed seth green's scott evil who has finally made the transition to evil and has won his father's love. the cameos from the beginning are excellent and seeing a certain pop princess's head blow up was rather satisfying. All in all i would recommend austin powers to anyone apart from the rare few that don't like the other films. I can happily say i was very pleased with goldmember i just think myers and new line cinema should leave the austin powers trilogy as the comedy phenomenon it is. I?m looking forward for Austin Powers 4. I also recommend: Austin Powers: The Spy Who Shagged Me, Austin Powers: International Man of Mystery, Shrek, and Scary Movie 1, 2, 3 & 4.
